I have this thing. I really, really, really like the look of white oak. When searching for our new flooring, I kept telling everyone "I want it to look like white oak that has been clear-coated, nothing else." No gray tint, no whitewash, no stain. Just plain ol' white oak. Turns out, after all the samples I looked it, I came back to the Stuga Tivoli sample, the first sample I had ordered. And sure enough, it has no stain, just a lacquer clear coat. We ordered the Stuga Tivoli flooring for the majority of our house, and as I…

We are onto week 3 of the One Room Challenge! This week I'm sharing all of the hall bathroom tile choices we made and how we got there. If you missed the first two posts about our hall bath you can catch up here: Our Hall Bath Renovation: Week 1Hall Bath Demo + Prep: Week 2 We started our design knowing we wanted to use classic white subway tile. It's neutral and very affordable. We used it in our last bath and also in our previous laundry room, so it felt like a familiar place to start. It lends itself…

Welcome to week 2 of our hall bathroom One Room Challenge! As with most DIY projects, theres a period of 'it gets worse before it gets better' and that's week 2! In case you missed the before photos and mood board for this space, you can catch up with the week 1 post. Just to recap, we started with our bland 1970s hall bath and will be bringing it into 2022 to match our Modern Ranch aesthetic. (Or, what we hope will be a Modern Ranch aesthetic when we are done renovating our house) Demo Since this space is a…

So, this was supposed to be a post about the new nightstand bases we built. With the beautiful cane detail, light wood tones, and ample storage. This is not that post. Because, sometimes in DIY, things don't always go as planned. With only two weeks left, as I approached Andrew about building said bases, he wasn't very enthused. At this point, we essentially had two weekends to build them, and that would be a stretch. If I'm honest, I probably underestimated the time it would take to compete this project. Especially since I wanted to add caning - a material…

We are now halfway through the BHG One Room Challenge, and we are making progress on our primary bedroom one weekend at a time! This week we installed vertical v-groove paneling along the headboard wall in our room. It was a quick, beginner level project and even though it isn't painted yet, it has already elevated our room. We are no strangers to paneling, we have board and batten in our mudroom, faux shiplap in our bathroom, and beadboard in our kitchen. I love the extra dimension it adds to a room and I think it will turn out stunning…

As I was scrolling Pinterest one day, this project caught my eye. I had never worked with clay (in my adult life anyways) and since I love to try new crafts, this seemed perfect for a Pinterest Party. DIY clay bowls are beginner friendly, don't use many supplies, and are inexpensive to make. What's not to like?! Two packs of clay made 7-8 small circular and oblong bowls. Obviously, the size of your pieces will determine how many you can make. This would be a great craft to make a few extras for birthday and hostess gifts - just stash…

Today, I'm excited to share a DIY project we completed last year. I know, I know, it's been 9 months since 'last year.' But with contractor lead times being what they are now, it took much longer than expected for this modern industrial bathroom vanity to make it into its home. Andrew's parents, my in-laws, recently completed a gut renovation of their primary bathroom. While in the design phase, they consulted us and asked if we could build a custom bathroom vanity to fit their narrow space. Sound familiar? We also built this vanity last year for Andrew's brother who…

Summer break has come to an end in our household and I'm finally back to share some of the projects I completed over the summer. I hosted a few Pinterest Parties this summer, the first of which consisted of creating DIY wooden plant stands. This super simple craft is easily customizable to your style and even further customizable using wood stains and paint. So, what's a Pinterest Party you ask? Only the most fun you'll have on a Friday night :) But besides that, its a ladies craft night (okay, sometimes Andrew makes an appearance when power tools are involved)…

Last month I shared our DIY herringbone barn door and I mentioned how I bleached some of the yellow pine wood. Yellow pine is a very affordable wood option, but it can be a little too, well, yellow. Wood bleaching gave my door a much more streamlined look. So, today I'm sharing my technique and all the steps I used to complete the look. I was surprised by how easy it was! My main reason I tried this method was because I used two different wood types for my barn door project. The barn door frame was constructed with a…

The herringbone barn door is finally finished! We started this project at the end of February and here we are in mid-June and I can say we are 99% done. Okay, so it still could use a door handle. But you guys, I couldn't wait to share this project with you. And technically, it functions just fine without a handle, but it will most certainly look better with one. I ordered a handle for the door just before writing this post, so it should be here by the time you are reading this. I will surely update you if its…
