From the beginning of this project, I knew we would be making a vanity for the hall bath. While the space we had available for the vanity wasn't necessarily odd, it wasn't a typical standard size. And I'm all about maximizing storage in small spaces, so every inch counts. Once I convinced Andrew there weren't any good options in a reasonable price range online or from the home improvement stores, he agreed to make one. We are into week 7 of the One Room Challenge, which means, theoretically I'll be posting the reveal photos of our hall bath next week.…

It's week 6 of the one room challenge and most of the design decisions have been made. From here on out, it's all about execution. Most of the major things are done, but we still have some tile work, painting, and carpenter work left to do. If you missed the beginning of this One Room Challenge, you can catch up on all my posts here: Hall Bath Inspiration and Befores: Week 1Demo + Prep: Week 2Hall Bath Tile Picks: Week 3Tile Installation: Week 4How to Take the Red Out of Red Oak: Week 5 Today I want to share how…
I have this thing. I really, really, really like the look of white oak. When searching for our new flooring, I kept telling everyone "I want it to look like white oak that has been clear-coated, nothing else." No gray tint, no whitewash, no stain. Just plain ol' white oak. Turns out, after all the samples I looked it, I came back to the Stuga Tivoli sample, the first sample I had ordered. And sure enough, it has no stain, just a lacquer clear coat. We ordered the Stuga Tivoli flooring for the majority of our house, and as I…
We are onto week 3 of the One Room Challenge! This week I'm sharing all of the hall bathroom tile choices we made and how we got there. If you missed the first two posts about our hall bath you can catch up here: Our Hall Bath Renovation: Week 1Hall Bath Demo + Prep: Week 2 We started our design knowing we wanted to use classic white subway tile. It's neutral and very affordable. We used it in our last bath and also in our previous laundry room, so it felt like a familiar place to start. It lends itself…
Welcome to week 2 of our hall bathroom One Room Challenge! As with most DIY projects, theres a period of 'it gets worse before it gets better' and that's week 2! In case you missed the before photos and mood board for this space, you can catch up with the week 1 post. Just to recap, we started with our bland 1970s hall bath and will be bringing it into 2022 to match our Modern Ranch aesthetic. (Or, what we hope will be a Modern Ranch aesthetic when we are done renovating our house) Demo Since this space is a…
New project announcement! If you missed this post, we recently bought a new house and moved to a ranch style home in North Austin. Every room needs updating and we are starting with the hall bath and two secondary bedrooms. So, for the Spring 2022 One Room Challenge, I'll be sharing our clean and fresh hall bathroom renovation progress, start to finish. We chose to start with these rooms because they will serve as our kids' bedrooms and shared bathroom and we want to get them settled as soon as possible. Also, these are the smallest rooms in the house…
The day has finally come to share my Primary Bedroom Makeover! There was a point near the end where I thought it might not happen (thank you wall sconce delay) but here we are. The One Room Challenge reveal is here! Lets take a little walk down memory lane. Here's what our primary bedroom looked like 8 weeks ago: And here's what it looked like when we bought our house 9 and a half years ago: charming, right? And after a *few* upgrades, here is what the room looks like today: We accomplished almost everything we set out to do…
So, this was supposed to be a post about the new nightstand bases we built. With the beautiful cane detail, light wood tones, and ample storage. This is not that post. Because, sometimes in DIY, things don't always go as planned. With only two weeks left, as I approached Andrew about building said bases, he wasn't very enthused. At this point, we essentially had two weekends to build them, and that would be a stretch. If I'm honest, I probably underestimated the time it would take to compete this project. Especially since I wanted to add caning - a material…
I think I broke a record for the longest amount of time to paint one small bedroom. After 7 (and a half) days, our primary bedroom is finally painted! If you have kids and you've attempted any sort of DIY project, then this will come as no surprise to you. I even had the generous help of my Mother-in-law and it still took that long. Even though I chose a two-tone look, this project still felt like a marathon painting session that might never end. But, I learned a new skill - how to paint a crisp line! And I…
I can't believe we are more than halfway through the One Room Challenge. Its flying by! The feeling is similar to when you plan and anticipate a vacation for what feels like forever, then it seems to happen in the blink of an eye. I'm in the process of painting our primary bedroom, see below. So, while I don't have many progress photos to show you this week, I wanted to share some of my design decision tips. Primary bedroom painting progress :) There are many rules-of-thumb when designing spaces, like how big your coffee table should be in relation…
