The day has finally come to share my Primary Bedroom Makeover! There was a point near the end where I thought it might not happen (thank you wall sconce delay) but here we are. The One Room Challenge reveal is here!

Lets take a little walk down memory lane. Here’s what our primary bedroom looked like 8 weeks ago:

And here’s what it looked like when we bought our house 9 and a half years ago:

charming, right?

And after a *few* upgrades, here is what the room looks like today:

We accomplished almost everything we set out to do in this room, with a minor pivot with the nightstands. But reusing the old nightstands still made an impact and I was able to try a new wood bleaching method.

To recap, here’s what we did to our primary bedroom:

  • Swapped out the short, wide dresser for a tall, narrow one
  • Added paneling to the headboard wall
  • Capped the paneling with a wall to wall shelf
  • Painted the entire room with a color blocking technique
  • Updated the nightstands
  • Added wall sconces above the nightstands
  • Updated and added textiles – new bedding and a new rug
  • And of course, added a few plants 🙂

The dresser makeover is still one of my favorite before and afters. And it just fits so perfectly in this space.

Surprisingly, I already had all of the artwork on the shelf. The large print in the middle is an architectural print Andrew drew in studio (aka architecture class) in college. The two barn drawings were my grandfather’s that I think one of his drafting students drew. And I had the silhouettes made of my kiddos last year and have been waiting on the perfect place to display them.

The simplified nightstands work much better in this room and I am glad I adjusted the height. They function beautifully now.

I’m not sure a room is every truly done, I think they continue to evolve over time, so I’m sure I’ll make some tweaks. I’m already looking ahead to the holidays and imaging some garland hanging from the shelf!
